The Brandenburg Gate (German: Brandenburger Tor) is a former city gate and just one block away from the Reichstag building. It is the main symbol of Berlin and one of the main symbols of Germany. That's why it appears on some of the German Euro coins.

"The main entrance to the city, surrounded by the wall for thirty years, was known throughout the world as a symbol for the division of the city and for the division of the world into two power blocs. Today's international visitors to Pariser Platz come to re-experience this first gateway to the city, and to enjoy the long-denied freedom to walk through this magnificent work of art and look at it up close."

The Brandenburg Gate is the only remaining gate of a series through which people formerly entered Berlin. It consists of twelve Doric columns, six to each side, forming five passageways and it is crowned with a quadriga depicting the goddess of victory marching into the city.
